The release of the seventh Enigma album “Seven Lives Many Faces” in September 2008 marked a new chapter in the 18-year history of the ground-breaking musical project created by Michael Cretu.

“The idea behind the album was not to base it on a certain concept or idea”, says Michael summing up how this album distinguishes itself from its predecessors. “Seven Lives Many Faces” builds on the six previous albums in its own unique way – Michael experimented with the familiar sounds, transforming and shaping them, thus adding a new dimension to Enigma’s sound palette – it is the beginning of an exciting musical joint venture between classical and modern music.

A mesmerizing combination of earthy hip-hop beats and orchestral string parts, the single “Seven Lives” is a brilliant masterpiece of contemporary sound-art. “Traces, many faces … That’s the start of Seven Lives!”.

The many shades of this multi-faceted seventh life perfectly complement “The United Colours of Music”. The single release “La Puerta Del Cielo” – which loosely translates to “the door to the sky” – is a hypnotic blend of traditional vocal chants and a gorgeously haunting melody. The powerful voice of a 60-year-old Ibicencan singing in the island’s dialect touches deep on the listener’s soul and clearly shows that Enigma speaks the universal language of music.

Brimming with light-hearted energy, “Seven Lives Many Faces” pushes forward to a new dimension of the Enigma universe with the deep wisdom of a continuing 18-year musical journey. By his own admission, Michael tried to make the impossible possible. Enigma used a new decoder for music’s DNA – sound structures combined with rhythms from diverse cultures and from different musical eras fuse into a completely new collage of sounds.

"First of all, the seven is a magic number which is following us since ages within all religions or parts of the world. I described during E6 that ENIGMA is a little tiny asteroid which is rotating in a very elliptic orbit around the world - sometimes closer, sometimes far away. With E7 I decided to land again.

I don't know why, but as always I had the wish to combine strange musical elements. This time, everybody was nerving me: do something in a classic spirit. But they wanted me to take opera singers, and absolute average standards, so I decided to do my way of modern classic music: vienna symphonic orchestra combined with the dirtiest hip hop loops.

Concerning the result I would say: maybe it is the best record I ever did. I know, you will think: an artist is always pretending his newest record is one of the bests. It is the best."
