About La Puerta Del Cielo / Seven Lives
A double single from the seventh album, pairing two songs that pull in opposite directions. La Puerta Del Cielo is the hymnal, ethnic-rooted one: a piece of Ibizan folk song carried by Margarita Roig, made to travel far past the island it came from. Seven Lives is its counterweight with Andru Donalds on lead over Cretu’s signature collision of orchestra and hard programmed beats. One song looks inward, to the beginnings of Enigma, while the other looks outward, to what Enigma has become.
”I was always looking like scientist for ethnical vocals around the world, and I discovered something beautiful around the corner on Ibiza, where I live. It is a such a wonderful, but disappearing, folkloric tradition of vocals. Nobody knows it, even here on this island.
