The companion to the greatest hits, released the same year, Love Sensuality Devotion: The Remix Collection gives the other half of the story its own home. It gathers nine reworkings of Enigma tracks. Where the studio records moved inward, these stretch the same material outward, several of them built by names from club culture rather than Cretu alone.
For years Enigma has had a major influence on the rhythms of club culture and has been an inspiration to DJs around the world. As Michael Cretu puts it: “The fact that Engima has been used by so many shows that this project was something really new. Even though it is irritating, it is still a compliment”.
”My understanding of remixes is kind of different to the standards music business. For me, a remix has nothing to do with a club version. It is basically a chance to make an eight minute song out of the typical two to three minutes.
