More than a quarter-century on, Enigma returned to the song that started everything. Sadeness (Part II) picks up the thread of Sadeness (Part I), keeping the atmosphere at its core but setting it against new company: the towering organ theme of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor and the voice of singer Anggun. It is the old provocation rebuilt with the tools of a different century, the sacred and the club brought into the same room once again.
”I wanted to explore how Sadeness sounds after 25 years of Part I. For this, I needed a theme that is not rooted in chants, but still a classic. I found it in Bach, a composer I have admired since the beginning of my studies as a classical pianist back in Romania.
