Voyageur

In 2003, Michael Cretu steered Enigma into a new musical direction and aptly described the genre of Voyageur as “sophisticated pop”. The fifth Enigma album set out from familiar territory, charting what Cretu calls “an experimental project on a pop music basis”. Built around deceptively simple melodies, the record arranges them with the depth and instinct that have defined Enigma from the beginning.

The intoxicating electronic ambience of the album goes beyond conventional pop, charged with what Cretu calls “harmonious monotony”. The first single, also titled Voyageur, sets the tone of a hypnotic, forward-driving pulse. The second, Following the Sun, moves in the opposite direction: pure, uplifting, almost weightless, carried by the hypnotic vocals of Ruth-Ann.
